De serie is het vervolg op het werk dat Semna van Ooy maakte tijdens een werkperiode als Artist in Residence bij Kaus Australis in Rotterdam. De reis en de transitietijd in de Intercity Direct tussen Amsterdam en Rotterdam waren aanleiding voor een serie collages, ontstaan door tekeningen te versnijden en opnieuw samen te voegen.
Tijdens de treinreis heeft van Ooy allerlei observaties gedaan en opgetekend. Zoals het fenomeen dat het verkeer op de snelweg vanuit de voorbijrazende trein achteruit in plaats van vooruit lijkt te bewegen. Die betrekkelijkheid van snelheid is in de collages gethematiseerd door fragmenten met verschillende dynamiek pal naast elkaar te plaatsen om zo de gesuggereerde beweging kracht bij te zetten of juist af te zwakken.

Huidekoperstraat 26-28: a typical late modernist office building in a typical 19th Century street, a building in current transition to become suited to the 21th century as a topical apartment building. The huge building, its position and its state of transition provide ample associations with Space, Time and Architecture, the wellknown book by Sigfried Gideon. Where Gideon emphasized the interdependence between architecture with the space and time (in the sense of ‘period’) in which it occurs the exhibition brings a new take on these intertwined elements, thus it’s title ‘TIME, SPACE & ARCHITECTURE’.

A last chance to see the BurgerWeesHuis van Aldo van Eyck and ‘RHIZOME- BWH 2.0’, including an impressive new shoot: A twelve meter drawing-installation inspired by the BWH, by artist Semna van Ooy!
Semna van Ooy’s (1961) sculptures and drawings result from a cyclic proces of repeated acting, observing and reacting, with the analysis of movement and the context in which a work is placed as structural starting points. Especially for RHIZOME-BWH 2.0, van Ooy made the drawing installation ‘Ode to Aldo’: Inspired by the building with its modular structure, that can be viewed as repetitive movement, its domes, glass and brick walls, a triptych developped that covers the 12 mtr long, curved wall in the heart of the exposition.
